Located in Washington, DC, Opus Hall at Catholic University of America opened in January 2009 to house over 400 students on campus.
The first of three phases, this seven-story Residential Life building will be LEED® Certified and has 79 unit modules containing 402 total beds. Each unit module contains three-single bedrooms and one-double bedroom sharing an in-unit bathroom facility and living space. Additionally, each floor has a Resident Assistant unit.
Each floor of this building contains a student common living/dining area including a full kitchen and student amenities. These spaces are centrally located within the building's floor plan, with views of a central quad and plaza area. A common area on the first level of the building includes a student lounge, study area, laundry facilities, offices and a contemplative space for student use. There are also two resident director apartments.
The building is sited to view the open space and oriented to have a relationship to the existing campus and adjacent resident halls. To utilize existing grades, an outdoor elevated terrace was created as an overlook to the quad and plaza area.
