The Opus Group, a $2.2 billion full-service real estate development company with nearly 55 years of experience, has quietly been changing the face of communities across the nation. With headquarters in Minneapolis, Opus has 1,959 employees in 26 offices in the United States and Canada. To date, Opus has completed 2,438 projects totaling 238 million square feet, and currently has appoximately 35 million square feet of space planned or under development across the country.

Office

Opus' unique design-build approach and its ability to customize projects based on the complexity and need for cost-effective and highly functional office buildings have resulted in award-winning projects across the country. The company has completed 648 office projects totaling 76 million square feet and has in excess of 10 million square feet planned or under development, including a 1.2-million-square-foot headquarters for Medtronic Inc.’s Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management (CRDM) unit. Opus is currently ranked #2 among the Top 25 Office Developers by National Real Estate Investor magazine.

Industrial

Opus has been a major developer of industrial buildings throughout the country since its inception in 1953, and is currently ranked #8 among the Top 25 Industrial Developers by National Real Estate Investor magazine. Opus has completed more than 1,053 industrial projects totaling 122 million square feet and has approximately 14 million square feet planned or under development. Opus’ expertise includes manufacturing and distribution centers such as DHL in Allentown, Pa., the Plainfield Business Center at Airwest in Indianapolis, the 1.6-million-square-foot Enterprise Business Park in Aberdeen, Md., and a ConAgra Foods temperature controlled warehouse in Atlanta.

Retail

Opus’ extensive retail development background spans all categories of retail, including grocery-anchored centers, power centers, lifestyle/town centers and mixed-use developments. Using its proven design-build approach, Opus listens to and collaborates with communities and clients to build beyond their retail development visions. Opus has completed 167 retail projects totaling more than 23 million square feet, and has 26 projects totaling nearly 5 million square feet planned or under development.

Opus' professional team of more than a dozen retail specialists in 26 offices focuses on the unique requirements of our retail clients, providing the personalized service and attention to detail they need and deserve. The Opus retail group offers national capabilities, as well as the benefits of local expertise.

Signature retail projects include: the Burr Ridge Village Center, a 500,000-square-foot mixed-use development located 25 miles west of downtown Chicago; Hill Country Galleria, a lifestyle center/mixed-use development outside Austin, Tex., and the Suwanee Gateway mixed-use development with 360,000 square feet of retail, plus 580,000 square feet of office space, 700 residential units and a hotel, currently under development outside Atlanta.

Multifamily

Opus’ experience and skill in real estate development includes 30 years of developing top-of-the-line multifamily projects. From high-rise condominium towers in major urban centers to luxury waterfront residences in suburban communities, Opus relies on its vertically integrated design-build approach to bring innovative multifamily projects to life. Across the country, Opus currently has more than 6,000 units in the planning or development stages, including luxury high-rise condominiums, town homes and apartment buildings, plus multifamily as part of larger mixed-use retail and office developments.

Opus’ expertise includes such projects as the 255-unit Carlyle in downtown Minneapolis; the Scottsdale Waterfront residences with 198 units in Scottsdale, Ariz.; The Pinnacle at City Park South, a 271- unit condominium project in Denver; and Parkshore Plaza, the 118 unit high-rise condominium proejct in St, Petersburg, Fla.

Government

With more than 1.6 million square feet of leased space under development for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), Opus is a leader in unique forms of government projects. For example, Aberdeen Proving Ground and the U.S. Army selected Opus to develop nearly 300 acres of land at the Aberdeen Providing Ground in northern Maryland. The project called The G.A.T.E. (Government and Technology Enterprise), is an Enhanced Use lease (EUL) project, providing Opus with a 50-year ground lease to develop offices, labs and a hotel/conference center to be used primarily for government purposes.

Another significant government project under development is the Social Security Administration Center in Birmingham, Ala. Opus South, in collaboration with HOK Architects, will incorporate environmentally friendly construction and energy conservation measures in the design to achieve LEED® Silver certification. Located in the historic Civic Rights District of Birmingham, this project will maintain historic integrity while revitalizing this area.

Opus also recently completed the EPA Region 8 Headquarters, a 292,000-square-foot building located in the historic neighborhood of Lower Downtown Denver.

Institutional

Opus has been working with educational institutions since 1953 to create campus environments designed to support the missions of higher education. Opus understands the need for respecting the architectural integrity of a campus – for creating functional, durable space that is adaptable to the changing needs of the institution and its students – and works closely with each client to deliver a finished project that is distinctly creative, attuned to the institution’s image and environment and stands the test of time.

Opus has completed 398 institutional projects totaling more than 18 million square feet and has 2.1 million square feet planned or under development. Completed projects include: the Mariucci Arena at the University of Minnesota; Bradley Tower, W. F. Young Tower, Crowne Centre and MacKenzie Building at Pensacola Christian College; the Memorial Student Union, John P. Raynor, S.J. Library and the Al McGuire Center at Marquette University in Milwaukee; Cintas Center and the Gallaher Student Center at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio; student housing at Saint Mary’s College at Notre Dame, Ind., and Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.; as well as 20 buildings for the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis. Opus is also currently developing a seven-story residence hall for The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Sustainable Development

Responding to the needs of government and commercial clients, Opus has a strong expertise in developing highly efficient, sustainable buildings. Opus has more than 9 million square feet of sustainable buildings complete or under development. These buildings, many of which are LEED®-certified, incorporate highly energy efficient mechanical systems, water efficient landscaping techniques and low-emitting construction materials to create aesthetically pleasing, environmentally friendly buildings. Recent sustainable projects include: the EPA Region 8 Headquarters in Denver; American Honda’s Regional Training & Distribution Center in Gresham, Ore; U.S. Department of Transportation building in Lakewood, Colo.; and the Arizona Department of Administration and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality buildings in Phoenix. Other office projects seeking LEED® certification include the Social Security Administration Center in Birmingham, Ala., and the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration Building in College Park, Md.
