Due to events such as the Oklahoma City bombing, 9/11, and the California Energy crisis, much of today’s building design is driven by the complex challenges of homeland security and environmental responsibility. Critical features such as blast resistance, progressive collapse prevention, green roofs and energy efficiency must be considered. Building in this type of environment requires flexible, integrated service delivery – a design-build team approach pioneered by Opus in this country. In 2003, the General Services Administration (GSA) also instituted a requirement that all new GSA building projects must meet criteria for basic LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. Opus’ integrated design-build delivery method enables us to meet these requirements on tight deadlines and within budget. With more than 2 million square feet of leased space under development for the GSA, Opus is a leader in unique forms of government projects.
